Leeds United want new free transfer as Cheikhou Kouyate update emerges
Leeds United want to sign former West Ham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The news outlet reported on 10 October that as the 34-year-old is out of contract, he can be signed on a free transfer.
Daniel Farke and the rest of the players who haven’t been called up during the international break will return to training at Thorp Arch on 11 October.
It’s unclear if the Senegal international or any other free agents have trained with the club.
Cheikhou Kouyate would be a solid signing for Leeds United
Kouyate, a four-time league winner with Anderlecht would come to Elland Road with the winning mentality and also experience of playing in the Premier League.
Signing the 34-year-old on a free transfer would be a strategic move for Leeds United, addressing several immediate needs.
With his extensive Premier League experience, Kouyate would bring a level of quality and understanding of English football that could prove invaluable in Leeds’ push for promotion.
His versatility to play as a defensive midfielder or centre-back offers tactical flexibility, which is crucial given the current injury crises in the squad.
Kouyate’s physical presence and aerial ability in defence, coupled with his leadership on and off the pitch, as highlighted by his past managers, could stabilise a midfield that’s been stretched thin.

Moreover, his availability as a free agent means the Whites could secure his services without the financial burden of a transfer fee, making it a low-risk and high-reward signing.
