Leeds United want MLS gem Diego Luna as career-changing update shared

Leeds United are interested in bringing MLS Young Player of the Year Diego Luna to Elland Road, according to the Daily Mirror.

The publication’s website shared [7 December] that Leeds have explored the potential opportunity of bringing the 21-year-old playmaker to English football from Real Salt Lake, where he has excelled and scooped the accolade.

Luna racked up nine goals and eight assists last season for his side, and is reportedly wanted by clubs across Europe as a result in what would be a “career-changing” switch.

Leeds United are expected to get some degree of business done in the January transfer window, and Luna could be a player who tops their list.

With an age profile which suits any progressive club and registering the numbers he has done, it could soon be time for Luna – dubbed “Moon Boy” in the States – to try his hand across the pond; Leeds are looking to bolster their small squad size in the coming weeks.

The attacker’s contract at Real Salt Lake runs until December 2026, which gives his club some breathing space, though they will be dwarfed in what they can offer an ambitious young player in terms of competition and trophies.

Luna so far has one senior cap for the USMNT and shares the national team with Brenden Aaronson, who has revived his Elland Road career this campaign under Daniel Farke.

He has already made visits to both Belgium and Portugal as part of potential moves, while interest in him rapidly builds to elevate his market value from what was previously an estimated £3million.
