Leeds United want left-back transfer as last-gasp update emerges

Leeds United look set to push for a new left-back in the final days of the transfer window, with Burnley veteran Charlie Taylor and Leicester youngster Luke Thomas two options, according to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay.

The news outlet shared on 28 August that the importance of bringing in a new full-back was made stronger following Sam Byram suffering an adductor strain in the 4-3 victory over Ipswich.

Both options could be explored to avoid being caught out by a breakdown in talks this close to the end of the transfer window, with the deadline set for 1 September, so there will be a last-gasp push over the coming days.

Two very different options

The possible move for Taylor may cause a stir among Leeds fans after his previous spell at Elland Road ended after he refused to play for the club in an effort to force through a move to his current side.

Doubts have emerged among fans about how warm of a reception Taylor may receive should he return to Yorkshire, although time does heal, particularly in football, and comparisons can be drawn to current Leeds star Willy Gnonto, who scored on his return to the side at Ipswich.

Thomas, on the other hand, represents a younger option for Leeds to explore. At just 22 years of age, the defender has played in four separate Premier League seasons for Leicester and made 17 league appearances last season, although he has not been used so far since their relegation.

His age will certainly make him a more attractive option, but may also make him a more expensive one, as there is often a premium placed on young homegrown talent in England.

In other Leeds United news, a new update has arrived around the club’s pursuit of Joseph Paintsil.
