Leeds United want Bashir Humphreys transfer as Chelsea make new decision
Leeds United are among the clubs interested in signing Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer journalist posted on X [10 August] that Leeds are competing with Burnley as well as clubs from Germany for the England Under-21 international.
Humphreys, who spent last season on loan at Swansea City to gain 24 games’ worth of Championship experience, has appeared for the Chelsea first team on two occasions in cup competitions.
Leeds remain in the market for several transfer targets and need defensive cover having seen eight defenders depart Elland Road this summer, with Chelsea preferring a permanent exit.
Leeds United in Humphreys hunt
Leeds United are certainly in the market to gather a few more additions, having so far completed just three outfield arrivals.
The Humphreys deal would make sense if they can fend off the advances of Burnley – with whom they are expected to compete for a Premier League spot later this season – as well as Bundesliga outfits.
At 21, age is on his side and the centre-half can become a nurturing project if he is to be signed on a permanent deal and a long-term contract.
Humphreys also gathered experience with Swansea last season and does have experience abroad too, having spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign with Paderborn in Germany.
The last thing Farke needs is to come up short with the squad at his disposal with months of the season still to go, and more faces through the door are vital.
