Leeds United urged to sign Joe Rodon permanently this summer by former manager
Simon Grayson has urged Leeds United to sign Joe Rodon on permanently this summer despite missing out on promotion through the play-offs.
The Welshman joined the Whites last summer on a season-long loan but will now depart after the Southampton defeat at Wembley.
Despite initial financial concerns, the news of Red Bull sponsorship could give a boost in the transfer window Daniel Farke needed.
This could see Rodon return this summer and while speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post (31 May), Grayson has urged the club to do so.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “Out of the non-contracted players, I think Joe Rodon would be a real good addition to the team.
“You don’t play for Tottenham and be a Welsh international without being a good player so I think that fits a bill.”
Leeds United want Joe Rodon permanently
There is no doubt that Rodon was one of Leeds’ most consistent players across the season which saw Leeds keep the most clean sheets in the Championship.
Alongside Ethan Ampadu, the Welsh duo have helped form a solid base ahead of Illan Meslier which has been integral under Farke.
Rodon made 50 appearances in all competitions for Leeds while on loan and the hierarchy will be keen to make that permanent.
The possibility of that all hinges on the financial side of the club which is all up in the air and needs resolving as soon as possible.
There is a likelihood that key stars like Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto all depart this summer.

Should this be the case then bringing in already established stars like Rodon on a permanent basis could prove to be vital.
There is likely to be Premier League interest in his signature but if Farke can bring him back to Elland Road he could be an excellent piece of business.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has instructed Farke to trust one player at the club more next season.
