An unnamed scout has spoken about the incredible talents created in the Championship after Leeds United outcast Charlie Cresswell was linked with a surprise January transfer to AC Milan.

The Sunday People reported [24 March, page 55] that the Whites defender was subject to a deadline-day bid from the Serie A giants in January, but the move never materialised.

Following this, an Italian scout has lauded the Championship's record for developing "underrated" talents, who become available for a much cheaper fee due to playing in the second tier of English football.

"The Championship has a big record for generating talent and it's a fast-paced league with lots of games," the scout told Sunday People.

"There is a feeling that it is underrated in England and has produced many top players that now play in the Premier League - but the talent is not hugely expensive."

Charlie Cresswell linked with a shock move away from Leeds United

Though many fans at Elland Road were expecting the young centre-back to leave during the January transfer window, most would have been surprised should a move to AC Milan have gone through.

The 21-year-old has a lot of potential, but having fallen down the pecking order under Daniel Farke and losing the trust of the manager, all hope of building a future in Yorkshire looked lost.

Although Cresswell has been involved in the matchday squad much more recently, he has still only made one Championship start this season, with Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu deputising in defence.

There is no doubt that the Championship is a breeding ground for young talent, with the likes of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Archie Gray all impressing for Leeds.

This talent stretches throughout the division, with Plymouth Argyle's Morgan Whittaker, Sunderland's Jack Clarke, and Norwich City's Jonathan Rowe, to name just a few, lighting up the league.
