Leeds United unmatched anywhere in Premier League in ‘remarkable’ new transfer reveal

Leeds United are well on the way to securing their Premier League future.

The Whites picked up three big points last time out, with Leeds beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side sit 16th in the Premier League standings, carrying a six-point gap to the drop zone.

Home form has been crucial for Leeds this season, alongside experience throughout the side.

With the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin thriving up top, alongside the performances of Anton Stach, James Justin and more, Leeds’ plan of recruiting players in the prime years of their careers has worked well, and they stick out like a sore thumb in this regard when it comes to the league as a whole.

New reveal outlines unique Leeds recruitment plan

Following their ascent to the Premier League last May, Leeds brought in around £100million worth of talent as they looked to stabilise in the top- light, after relegation in 2023.

In a new study by The Athletic, described as “remarkable”, it was revealed that Leeds and fellow promoted outfit Sunderland have invested more on experience than many of their recent counterparts.

Every single penny spent by Leeds over the summer was on players aged 25 and over, trumping Fulham’s 2022 transfer window by over £35m.

Sunderland added serious experience with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Nordi Mukiele and Reinildo over the summer, though the additions of Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki and Habib Diarra outlined a parallel focus on youth.

Leeds are also completely unique in the current crop of Premier League sides, having solely recruited players between the ages of 25 and 28.

Only Arsenal come anywhere close to this, with 70 per cent of their summer business focusing on this age range.

Experience and home form can guide Leeds to safety

While not as exciting as Sunderland’s, and potentially not as future-proof, Leeds recruitment has worked fantastically.

Summer arrivals Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha sit at the top of the pile when it comes to goals in Farke’s side, with 10 and five respectively.

At the same time, Noah Okafor and Stach have also chipped in, with three goals each.

American Brenden Aaronson is the only player at the club last term to come close to the summer recruits, with four goals and three assists.

While it can often sound cliché, Leeds have recruited players with ‘know-how’ in the top flight, which has no doubt aided their home form, with Leeds winning double the number of matches on their own turf compared to their relegation rivals.

The Whites are preparing for three successive away clashes, with an FA Cup fourth-round clash against Birmingham City sandwiched by trips to Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Already carrying a six-point gap to the drop zone, the pressure is off in two outings where Leeds are very much considered underdogs.

Heading into the season’s crunch point, Leeds’ overall experience, and formidable home record will undoubtedly play a huge part in the ongoing relegation battle.
