Leeds United: Union Berlin transfer for Brenden Aaronson now ‘unthinkable’ after Tuesday development
It is “unthinkable” that Union Berlin will complete a permanent deal for Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson, according to Sport BILD.
The German newspaper reported on page 33 of its print edition on Wednesday (13 December) that the Bundesliga club are unlikely to activate the option-to-buy clause in the American international’s deal.
It comes after the German side were knocked out of Europe following a 3-2 defeat in the Champions League to Real Madrid on Tuesday (12 December), with the 23-year-old attacking midfielder coming on as a late substitute.

Miserable
It’s been an utterly miserable time for Aaronson so far with Union Berlin after failing to make much of an impression since forcing a move away from Leeds over the summer.
He has failed to score or register an assist in his 17 appearances for the German club, having only made five starts, the last of which came back in October [Transfermarkt].
Alongside being knocked out of Europe, Union are also struggling in the Bundesliga as they sit 15th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

It’s difficult to see why they would consider extending the American’s stay in the German capital by triggering the option to buy on the back of his performances this season.
That means he’s likely to return to Elland Road next summer when Daniel Farke will decide on whether or not he wants to hand the attacking midfielder a second chance in West Yorkshire.
