Leeds United undeterred in bid to sign Joel Piroe amid behind-the-scenes drama at Swansea

Leeds United remain undeterred in their bid to sign Joel Piroe despite the forward being locked in a dispute behind the scenes with his current club Swansea City, according to The Western Mail.

The Welsh newspaper reported on page 45 of its print edition on 24 August that the Dutchman and his representatives are in a stand-off with the Swans after the club have seemingly gone back on an exit agreement previous CEO Julian Winter made with the striker in January.

Despite the problems around the 24-year-old’s potential departure from the Welsh side, The Western Mail said the Whites are poised to press ahead with their move for Piroe and are leading the race for his signature.

Promising

It will come as promising news for Leeds fans to hear that they are leading the race to sign Piroe after the club have spent most of the summer trying to sign him.

There has been tough competition for the forward, with a number of Championship sides interested in landing him, while Premier League outfit Sheffield United have also been linked with a move.

It does sound as though a transfer away from Swansea could still be a little bit complicated due to his ongoing dispute behind the scenes with the club.

The Welsh newspaper reported that the disagreement is around the terms of the Dutchman’s sale after the agreement included fees and a one-off payment, with the two parties failing to make a breakthrough in the talks.

It suggested that one solution could be for the buying club to meet those terms and, in the Whites’ case, it could be worth making such an offer to ensure they get a quality forward at Championship level in before the transfer window closes next week.

In other Leeds United news, the club are in advanced talks to land an international midfielder.
