Leeds United now accept £23m bid for Tyler Adams exit from Elland Road

Leeds United have accepted a bid of £23million from Bournemouth for midfielder Tyler Adams, according to the Daily Echo.

The United States international had a £20m release clause in his contract following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League, but that expired.

However, the Daily Echo’s Jack Tanner reported on Friday [18 August] that the two clubs have reached an agreement on a fee.

Bournemouth could end up paying more if certain criteria are met, it is claimed, with Adams now set to finalise a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium assuming there are no issues with his medical.

Premier League quality

Adams must have feared the worst when it emerged Leeds were holding out for more than £20m for his signature.

The American has already seen a move to Chelsea fall through late on this month after the Blues opted to switch their focus elsewhere.

But Bournemouth appear happy to pay £3m more in order to get a deal over the line, and that is ultimately still good value for a player of Adams’ quality.

The 24-year-old impressed in his three campaigns in the Bundesliga and Champions League with RB Leipzig before catching the eye in the Premier League.

Indeed, he ranked joint-10th in the division last time out for tackles (89), level with Manchester United’s Casemiro, and was second only to Fulham’s Joao Palhinha for tackles attempted (50) [FBref].

Adams can therefore provide plenty of bite to Bournemouth’s midfield, while at the same time making Leeds a slight profit on the £20m paid to sign him last year.

While losing Adams is a blow for Leeds, it is a transfer that was fully expected and the deal has at least been completed in time for a replacement to be brought in.

Leeds have a lot of work to do now in the final weeks of the transfer window as Adams is set to join a long list of players who’ve left Elland Road either permanently or on loan this summer.

Tyler Roberts, Rodrigo and Joel Robles have gone permanently while Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Max Wober and Jack Harrison have all been loaned out.

In other Leeds United news, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has predicted exactly how long he expects Adams to be sidelined for with the injury he is carrying.
