Leeds United turn Illan Meslier replacement focus to Bundesliga star

Leeds United are already preparing for their upcoming Premier League season as Daniel Farke eyes a new goalkeeper.

Despite securing promotion from the Championship, Leeds’ goalkeepers have come under plenty of stick.

Illan Meslier was dropped from Leeds’ starting XI after a series of mistakes against Swansea.

While his replacement, Karl Darlow, has been solid, it is clear that a new goalkeeper is needed for the Premier League.

Now, Farke may have found a potential replacement for the duo as he eyes Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen.

Leeds eyeing move for Augsburg’s Dahmen

Dahmen could be the latest new signing at Elland Road this summer. The goalkeeper has impressed in the Bundesliga this season for Augsburg as the German side continues to fight for European football.

The former German youth international, who could play for England through his mother, joined the club in joined the club in 2023 and has since been a regular.

While the keeper has only started 16 matches this season, he has become one of the best shot-stoppers in the league.

The 27-year-old has only let in 10 goals so far this campaign and is a reliable presence in the net.

Now, Sports Bild‘s print edition (30 April) reports that Leeds are interested in bringing the keeper to England this summer.

Dahmen only has one year left on his contract, which could make negotiations easier for Leeds and may help them bring in the 27-year-old for a cut price.

It is also reported that Dahmen, who is German-English heritage, could consider a move to the Premier League to help bolster his England international prospects.

Leeds United need a consistent and reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League

As good as Meslier can be on his day, his inconsistency would almost certainly result in Leeds’ relegation next season if he were to be the club’s number one once again.

His replacement may not have as much potential, but if he is reliable, he would be invaluable to the club.

Dahmen would no doubt be a good signing. The keeper fits this criteria while also competing in one of the top divisions in Europe.

Leeds need to resolve their keeping issue quickly and not let it drag out into the start of the next campaign.

Hopefully, if there is genuine interest in Dahmen, the club moves quickly.
