Leeds United transfers: Roma ‘one step away’ from permanent Diego Llorente deal
Diego Llorente is “one step away” from completing a permanent transfer away from Leeds United to join AS Roma, according to Il Romanista.
Writing on their website (13 February), the news outlet report that the Serie A giants are close to triggering the clause to make his loan move permanent.
Roma will have to pay Leeds €5m (£4.2m) should he play in 50% of their games this season and he has been a regular this season. And after a move to Paris Saint-Germain in January never materialised, a move to Italy now looks “almost certain”.
Perfect transfer news for Leeds United
Llorente has absolutely no future at Elland Road at this point, so the fact that Roma may not be able to pull out of any deal can only be good news.
The Spaniard clearly doesn’t want to be at the club, and considering the way Daniel Farke dealt with Luis Sinisterra’s future by allowing him to move on it seems unlikely that he would be opposed to this move either.
£4.2m isn’t a lot of money in today’s game, but considering the situation and the fact that he will have two years remaining on his deal it’s a start.

It would be a far worse situation if Roma decided not to trigger the buy option and the club were forced to find a new buyer at some point during the summer, while being forced to pay his wages until that is the case.
It seems that this is going to be coming to an end sooner rather than later, and Leeds can focus on how to spend the money rather to strengthen the rest of the squad.
