Leeds United transfers: Huge Emi Buendia twist emerges

Leeds United have Aston Villa attacker Emi Buendia on their transfer list for the summer window.

The Argentina international is on loan at Bayer Leverkusen and they have the chance to buy him in the summer.

Prior to his move to the Bundesliga, the attacking midfielder was used sparingly by Unai Emery in the Premier League.

Leeds United continue to be interested in Emi Buendia

Give Me Sport’s Ben Jacobs claimed on 17 February that despite Leverkusen holding the cards for his future, the Whites remain contenders to secure his services.

It’s understood that the 28-year-old is high on their transfer shortlist with Daniel Farke keen on a reunion.

Buendia would undoubtedly be an excellent signing for Leeds if they secure promotion to the Premier League, as his proven quality, versatility and familiarity with Farke’s system make him a perfect fit for the top flight.

The Argentina international’s standout performances under Farke at Norwich, where he contributed 15 goals and 16 assists in the 2020/21 Championship season, showcase his ability to dominate games with creativity and flair, earning him the Championship Player of the Season award.

His capacity to unlock defences with precise passes and score from distance would add a new dimension to Leeds’ attack, complementing their pacey attackers like Willy Gnonto, Dan James and Joel Piroe.

Emi Buendia’s prior Premier League experience makes him a legitimate target

Despite seemingly falling down the pecking order at Villa, Buendia’s experience in the Premier League with 121 games under his belt, demonstrates his readiness to step up.

Farke’s prior success with the 28-year-old, winning two Championship titles, suggests a reunion could reignite his form, especially after his recent loan stint at Bayer Leverkusen.

Leeds’ need for a reliable No. 10 to replace Georginio Rutter aligns perfectly with Buendia’s skill set, offering intelligence, vision, and the ability to thrive against compact defences.

If the Whites return to the Premier League, his blend of experience and attacking prowess could be the key to ensuring they not only survive but compete effectively at the highest level.
