Leeds United transfers: David Brooks open to Bournemouth exit before February 1 deadline

Leeds United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of a new forward in the January transfer window after Bournemouth’s David Brooks admitted he was open to a move.

The 26-year-old winger started for the Cherries in their 5-0 FA Cup win over Swansea on Thursday, having found regular game time hard to come by since returning from cancer treatment.

Leeds and Southampton have both been linked with a loan move before the transfer window slams shut on February 1st, and Brooks has now admitted he is open to exploring new opportunities if it means he gets to play regularly.

“I just want to play first team football,” he said, as quoted by The Sun (26 January). “I’m trying to show the gaffer why I should be playing.

“I’ve had a lot of time on the sidelines and I don’t want to continue there. I’ve had two years out so I want to play, regardless of the circumstances.

“I’d love to continue my football here but it’s up to everyone what they think the best situation is.

“I’d rather be playing here but if the manager thinks there isn’t guaranteed football for me here I’ll try and explore opportunities elsewhere.”

Unplayable

Brooks has had a long battle with illness but he now seems ready to jump into regular action again and his performance in the FA Cup on Thursday was described as “unplayable“.

Leeds clearly need attacking reinforcements to bolster the squad and are keen on someone coming in, but whether Brooks would get the regular game time he wants is another matter.

Crysencio Summerville and Daniel James have been the regular starters on the wings so far this season and they have been two of the more consistent and high-level performers in Daniel Farke’s squad.

So turning up at Elland Road may not necessarily guarantee him regular football, and there isn’t really a big need for him to come in considering the current options in attack.

But if Farke wants him, the opportunity is clearly there to get a deal done and with the transfer window entering the final stages the 49ers will need to make their move soon.
