Leeds United transfers: Alex Crook shares likely Cameron Archer outcome

Leeds United transfer target Cameron Archer is “more likely” to remain at Southampton than move to Elland Road, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported via X (3 February) that the Whites are pushing hard to sign the forward, but as things stand, he will remain at St Mary’s beyond the 11pm deadline on Monday (3 February).

As per Daily Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath (3 February), Leeds are “in the box seat” to secure Archer’s services amid emerging interest from Championship promotion rivals Sunderland and Burnley.

However, despite Daniel Farke expecting to win the race with the Saints adding Victor Udoh to the forward ranks [Fabrizio Romano], Archer is expected to remain with the Premier League strugglers.

Leeds United will not sign Cameron Archer

What a whirlwind of emotions the winter transfer Deadline Day has brought to the Leeds faithful.

Although the Whites are prepared to part ways with £15million to secure Archer’s services [TEAMtalk] any further approach will now fall on deaf ears on the South Coast.

While on paper, Farke does not need further offensive recruits after the 7-0 demolition job of Cardiff City on Saturday (1 February), the two senior centre-forward options have failed to impress.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph, who both scored at Elland Road in the romp, boast a measly combined 15 goals in 59 appearances this season.

With a long-awaited Premier League return becoming more likely with each passing match, such low goal returns will do little to ensure top flight survival next term.

Farke clearly sees the need to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks to further improve his chances of winning the Championship title, but unfortunately, it will not be Archer.

Nevertheless, should Leeds secure promotion, more options will appear in the summer, and the failed move could very well prove to be a blessing in disguise.
