Leeds United transfers: £5m to seal deal for Svensson as Sky Sports drop update

Leeds United target Daniel Svensson could be available for £5million from Nordsjaelland, according to Philipp Hinze.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via his X account [22 January] that RB Leipzig has joined the list of clubs wanting to sign the left-back, having appeared on the radar at Elland Road.

It is understood that “loose talks” have taken place with the Bundesliga side, but with no deal “hot” yet, the 22-year-old could be signed for between £5million and £5.9million.

Leeds United look to strike left-back signing

Junior Firpo has entered into his final six months at Elland Road, and his exit would leave Sam Byram, Jayden Bogle and Isaac Schmidt as the only natural full-backs.

With the 28-year-old being sidelined for the last few weeks, Byram has been trusted in his position by Daniel Farke, with Schmidt clearly not doing enough to impress since arriving in the summer.

Considering these factors, it makes sense to search for a brand-new left-back option in January, or even in the summer transfer window, and Svensson is an interesting target.

The 22-year-old already has 153 appearances for Nordsjaelland, scoring eight goals in that time, and has earned himself a call-up to the Sweden national team recently.

He was given his international debut against Estonia during the October international break, albeit only a minute at the end of the 3-0 win, but the defender is now involved with the national team.

Leeds could be switching Championship football for Premier League football next season, which could suggest that a new calibre of players needs to be brought into Elland Road.

Of course, many supporters will be hoping that a deal can be agreed for Firpo to extend his stay in Yorkshire, but if that were not to happen, signing Svensson would be an ideal replacement this month.
