Leeds United saw their initial bid for Gustavo Hamer rejected and they are now not expected to return with a better one, Adam Pope reports.

According to the BBC journalist via X on 26 August the Whites are set to abandon their pursuit of the Dutch midfielder after being turned down by Sheffield United.

According to The Star on 26 August a £13million offer was seen as "derisory" and rejected, with Chris Wilder publicly referring to it as a "million miles away" from being enough.

Leeds signed Jayden Bogle from Bramall Lane earlier this summer.

Leeds United fail with Blades deal after Jayden Bogle signed

This will be the second summer running the club have attempted to sign Hamer and ended up disappointed [Voetbal Rotterdam], after the Blades won the race to sign him from Coventry last year.

He would have been an extremely encouraging signing for a fanbase that is on edge after seeing a host of top stars leave.

Largie Ramazani has been signed to replace Crysencio Summerville after he left for West Ham, and Manor Solomon's loan from Tottenham is now set to be completed after overcoming late interest from elsewhere [David Ornstein, 26 August].

The Israeli should help cover for the loss of Georginio Rutter to Brighton, and the quick dalliance with a Hamer push may have been a product of concern that the Spurs signing would fall through.

But if the Sheffield United Player of the Season was supposed to be a replacement for Glen Kamara then an alternative is going to need be sourced in short order, with just four days before the window shuts.

Of the four signings Daniel Farke supposedly wanted after Rutter's exit it would appear that half are secured, but the midfielder and full-back are still required, and a striker is also being looked for [Daily Mail, 24 August].

Max Aarons got far closer than Hamer to joining the Whites last summer after arriving for a medical before bailing to sign for Bournemouth, and he is back on the agenda now [Yorkshire Evening Post, 26 August].
