Leeds United transfer update emerges as Nathaniel Adjei enquiry made

Leeds United have made an enquiry over the transfer of Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei, according to LUFC FANZONE.

Writing on their official Twitter account on 9 July, the news handle which former owner Andrea Radrizzani confirmed has sources within the club, claimed that the Whites have re-ignited their interest in the 21-year-old following the exits of Charlie Cresswell and Diego Llorente.

Leeds met with Swedish club Hammarby in early 2024 but did not pursue a permanent transfer at the time and he has now left them for the Ligue 2 side as a clause has been activated but their relegation means he’s up for sale this summer.

Via Twitter, LUFC FANZONE wrote: “Following the departures of Charlie Cresswell and Diego Llorente, LUFCFANZONE understands that Leeds United have reignited their interest in Nathaniel Adjei.

“Adjei was a target for Leeds in January and despite holding talks with the player’s representatives and his then parent club Hammarby, a move never materialised as no central defenders left the club.

“Because of that, Adjei completed a loan move to Lorient in January, where he featured 15 times, which activated an automatic buy clause in the loan contract – however because of Lorient’s relegation into Ligue 2 he is available for transfer.

“This has reignited Leeds’ interest in the 21 year old, and although Leeds have so far only enquired about the possibility of signing Adjei, it may be one to watch for later in this transfer window as Leeds look to bolster their centre back options.”

Nathaniel Adjei will be a good signing for Leeds United

At 21 years old, he represents a long-term investment with potential for growth and development under the right coaching and environment.

His experience in the Swedish league with Hammarby IF and on loan at Lorient demonstrates his adaptability and ability to perform at a competitive level.

Defensively, Adjei’s presence could bolster Leeds’ backline as his physical attributes and ability to read the game would complement the team’s style of play, especially in a league known for its physicality like the Championship.

His versatility to play as a centre-back or a defensive midfielder adds an extra layer of tactical flexibility to the team.

Furthermore, the departure of defenders like Cresswell and Llorente has left a void in Leeds United’s defence.

Adjei’s potential arrival would not only fill this gap but also inject fresh energy and competition into the squad, pushing existing players to perform better.
