Leeds United transfer update as Whites have looked at ‘a number’ of Barcelona players

Leeds United have “looked at a number” of fringe players at Barcelona, according to the Daily Mail.

Top of the pile is 19-year-old Ilias Akhomach, with Leeds reportedly laying all bases as they close in on his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Marca [20 April], the Whites have benefited in his pursuit from making first contact, with Arsenal having also shown interest.

“Leeds United, who have looked at a number of Barca fringe players, may boost Barca’s finances slightly as they are now keen on 19-year-old Spanish youth international Ilias Akhomach,” according to the Daily Mail.

Talented youngsters needed

Leeds are in desperate need of talented players in all areas, with the Whites set to undergo major changes this summer, regardless of their Premier League fate.

But that fate will play a key factor in deciding which players will stay and which players will leave, with the West Yorkshire outfit set to find it very difficult to bring Barcelona youngsters to Elland Road if the club are not playing in the Premier League.

And unfortunately for Leeds, that is a very real prospect, with the club currently sitting just a point off the relegation places.

A handful of wins may just do the trick in securing safety for another season, with winnable matches coming up against Leicester and Bournemouth.

Staying in the division will no doubt attract talent, with the potential signature of Akhomach increasing the club’s chances of also landing a few of his talented young Barcelona teammates.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are reportedly in more of a mess behind the scenes than Leicester City as both clubs are battling relegation.
