Leeds United are set to miss out on signing Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark, according to TEAMtalk.

The online source reported [13 August] that Leeds were exploring a potential loan deal for the 19-year-old, looking to cover the losses of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara in midfield.

However, the Reds look to be searching for a permanent deal for the player with 14 first-team appearances, valuing Clark at around £12million amid interest from RB Salzburg.

The Whites lack depth in the middle of the park, even with Joe Rothwell being loaned in from Bournemouth as a reinforcement.

The 29-year-old was a substitute for Leeds' opening game of the new Championship season against Portsmouth, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev preferred as the midfield duo.

While Ampadu started 46 Championship, showing no signs of slowing down, injuries can emerge at any time during the season, and Clark would have been a very solid option on loan.

Clark has already been handed his Premier League debut, even starting against Nottingham Forest, while also being given opportunities in the FA Cup and Europa League.

The 19-year-old also has an eye for goal, notching 13 goals at Under-18 level and five at Under-21 level at Anfield.

So, despite his lack of minutes for the Reds, he certainly does not lack experience, so it will be a huge shame for the Whites if their interest in the midfielder is serious.

Brenden Aaronson has already proven that he is ready to be thrown back into Farke's starting lineup, but he is far more attacking-minded than the likes of Gray and Kamara.

Farke and the Elland Road hierarchy will need to go back to the drawing board, and quickly, with only a few weeks of the summer transfer window remaining.
