Leeds United transfer update as ‘ambitious’ Emi Buendia news emerges
Alan Nixon has labelled the pursuit of Aston Villa ace Emi Buendia as an “ambitious” one for Leeds United.
Leeds moved back to the top of the Championship with a win against Norwich City on Wednesday (22 January), with their automatic promotion chances very much intact.
However, the Whites have done little to boost those hopes when it comes to transfer dealings, having yet to make a signing amid links to Villa’s Buendia [Graham Smyth].
The Argentine is struggling to get a look in at Villa Park, but when quizzed on Leeds’ chances of signing him, Nixon didn’t seem overly confident.
Writing via his Blue Sky account [23 January], The Sun journalist said: “Awfully ambitious target that one. It looks like a strong squad anyway aside from another centre half probably.”
Leeds United are failing to take advantage of winter transfer window
While other clubs around the Whites are showcasing their ambition and addressing the weaknesses in their squad, Leeds are doing very little on the transfer front.
Daniel Farke’s side are yet to complete a single signing and many of the links connecting them to various players have been rather dilated.
It’s important to consider the strength of the squad that Farke has at his disposal, but there are still glaring areas of improvement that, if addressed, would boost their promotion hopes significantly.

Transfer business is certainly difficult in the winter, with clubs reluctant to sanction exits before they are able to sign a player of their own given the tight time restraints and restrictions.
With the right level of planning, though, top signings can be achieved.
It would be surprising if Leeds were to finish the window without a single incoming, but as things stand, signs are certainly pointing that away.
