Leeds United transfer to be made official after Sunday developments

Diego Llorente has waved goodbye to Roma with a move from Leeds United to Real Betis soon to be made official, according to Pepe Elias.

The Spanish journalist has reported that the 30-year-old is set to sign for the La Liga outfit from Elland Road, with the transfer to be announced shortly.

The defender took to social media on Sunday 7 July to thank Roma fans and say goodbye after spending last season on loan with the Giallorossi.

Diego Llorente Leeds United departure to be made official

There have been plenty of ups and downs in a deal that could see Llorente return to Spain with a move to Real Betis this summer.

Reports have suggested that the defender was set for a medical with the La Liga side ahead of a deal being completed [ABC, 7 July].

That came before the Yorkshire Evening Post (7 July) suggested that Leeds had rejected an offer from Betis.

With all this being said, a departure for the Spaniard seems to be likely but the Whites need to reach an agreement that suits them.

Llorente was a regular starter for Leeds while in the Premier League and did play a role in relegation to the Championship.

It seems clear however that he does not see his future in playing second-tier English football and is eyeing potential European nights instead.

A strange transfer saga but one that hopefully comes to an end in the coming days to provide Daniel Farke with clarity and allow him to shape his squad ahead of the season.
