Leeds United transfer round-up: Player set for Elland Road exit, striker twist

Leeds United are enjoying a successful Championship campaign, but attentions are yet to turn to the winter transfer window with the Whites yet to complete an incoming transfer.

With the window having opened over three weeks ago, Leeds have found themselves linked with several incoming and outgoings, although it’s only the latter that have materialised as of yet.

The Whites still have time to conclude some business of their own, as MOT Leeds News rounds up all the latest news and rumours coming out of Elland Road.

Real Betis interested in Leeds United defender

La Liga outfit Real Betis have reportedly turned their attention to Leeds defender Junior Firpo after complications emerged in their deal to sign Alex Moreno [ABC Sevilla, 22 January].

Moreno is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest but his high wages have provided a block ahead of a proposed move to Betis.

The Spanish outfit are understood to be keen on signing Firpo in this window as opposed to at the end of the season when his current deal at Elland Road expires.

Firpo has featured 15 times for the Whites this season, registering four goal contributions.

Leeds youngster set for Elland Road exit

Whites youngster Kris Moore is currently on trial at Scottish outfit St Johnstone as confirmed by Simo Valakari speaking via The Courier [21 January].

That is ahead of a proposed loan deal to St Johnstone if he is to impress during the trial period.

Valakari said: “We have a young centre-back, Kris Moore, training with us this week so we can have a look at him.

“He has come recommended for us so it will be interesting to see how he gets on. He has played for Leeds United’s U23s team so we will watch him in training then see what we think.”

Now 21 years old, any long-term future for Moore looks unlikely at Elland Road with a chance to kickstart his career in Scotland a shrewd option.

Twist emerges in reported chase for French striker

Leeds United found themselves linked with a move for FC St. Gallen’s Willem Geubbels [Sky Sports, 21 January] but an immediate twist emerged.

Isaac Johnson of Leeds Live, shut down those claims surrounding Guebbels [21 January] with it reported that Leeds had no interest in the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old was understood to be of interest to several Championship clubs but the latest update seems to suggest the Whites are not involved in that.

Emi Buendia to Leeds United stance shared

Emi Buendia is a player whose name keeps popping up throughout the window with Leeds’ chances of signing the Villa star outlined by Graham Smyth.

Smyth, via a post on X [20 January] shared his thoughts on a potential deal with a claim that Buendia will be far more attracted to a La Liga switch than he would be to a Championship one.

Of course, Buendia previously played under Daniel Farke during the duo’s time at Norwich City but it appears unlikely that the pair will be reunited at Elland Road.

Smyth went on to say: “But getting him or a player like him probably puts this team over the edge into winning-a-title-by-a-distance land, doesn’t it?”

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke has questions to answer over the omission of this player.
