Graham Smyth shares ‘weird’ Glen Kamara to Leeds United transfer latest

Graham Smyth has described the transfer saga involving Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara and Leeds United as a “weird one”.

Leeds were tipped to complete a move for the 27-year-old this week [Last Word on Sport], but there has been no apparent movement.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Smyth was asked on Twitter on Thursday [24 August] whether he can still see a deal going through, something he admitted he would do.

“Weird one,” he said. “They were in, out, in again and now a bit quiet. I’d do it. Not too pricey and a solid player.”

A smart move

Leeds announced the signing of Joel Piroe from Swansea City on Thursday [24 August], the Dutchman following in the steps of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Sam Byram and Karl Darlow in making the switch to Elland Road this summer.

Kamara, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri and Genk winger Joseph Paintsil are the other players being targeted by Leeds [Dean Jones] ahead of the window closing at 11pm on 1 September.

However, United’s interest in Kamara does not appear quite as strong as it was even a couple of days ago, so it remains to be seen whether they will pursue a deal late in the window.

Leeds United

However, as Smyth himself said, it makes sense for Leeds to move for former Ibrox fan favourite Kamara.

The Finland international has proved a quality acquisition for Rangers over the past four-and-a-half years, but he has been ostracised from the first team by Michael Beale and is on his way out.

Leeds could still do with another midfielder in the mould of Kamara, so while things have gone a little quiet in terms of anything concrete, this is a transfer that the Whites must surely pursue.

In other Leeds United news, a finance expert has warned supporters they may be “hit in their pockets” after the club were fined by the FA.
