Phil Hay shares if Tottenham can cancel Joe Rodon loan at Leeds United amid injury crisis

Tottenham have no option to recall Joe Rodon from his loan spell at Leeds United until January at the earliest, according to Phil Hay.

Spurs had Cristian Romero sent off in their thrilling 4-1 loss to Chelsea on Monday (6 November), while fellow centre-back – and star performer – Micky van den Ven left the field with a hamstring injury.

With the two facing a spell out of the side, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is now short of options in the heart of his defence.

However, asked whether Spurs have the option of recalling Rodon right now, Hay said on Twitter [6 November]: “Recall clauses in season-long loans only apply in the January window.”

Good news

Rodon joined the Whites on a season’s loan in August and has played in 12 of Leeds’ 15 Championship games so far, starting 11 of those.

The Wales international has been a superb addition to the squad – one that is arguably stronger now than it was last season in the Premier League.

Seeing Rodon return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of schedule would have been a massive blow for Daniel Farke, but that will not be happening – for now, at least.

However, assuming there is indeed any sort of recall option in the agreement, it will be interesting to see what happens in January should Spurs suffer a similar crisis at the back.

Farke could do with all the options possible until the end of the season if Leeds are to maintain this automatic promotion push, so ideally no players move on when the January window opens.

Whether or not Rodon remains at Elland Road beyond this season, though, remains to be seen.
