Phil Hay provides Crysencio Summerville update amid latest Leeds United exit talk

Crysencio Summerville will remain a Leeds United player beyond the end of the transfer window, according to Phil Hay.

Respected journalist Hay provided an update on The Athletic’s transfer blog on Friday [1 September] ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Premier League side Burnley supposedly made an approach for Summerville, only to be knocked back by Leeds late on in the window.

Hay said: “Crysencio Summerville is set to remain at Leeds United after the Championship club rebuffed an initial enquiry from Burnley.

“The 21-year-old has three years remaining on the contract he signed at Leeds last summer and is set to be a key player under Daniel Farke this season.”

One saga dealt with

Leeds have seriously strengthened their squad over the past couple of days with the signings of Djed Spence, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev.

Ambitious fans will no doubt like to see one more arrival on deadline day, but arguably more important than that is stopping any more outgoings.

Summerville, Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto all continue to be linked with moves away, which has been the case pretty much all summer.

Fresh updates on Friday [1 September] suggested that Gnonto is still wanted by Everton [Lyall Thomas], as is Sinisterra [Daily Mail].

Leeds have made clear that they have no intention of selling either player, and that is also the case with Summerville.

The 21-year-old has not played much of a part this season due to injury, but when available he is such a key figure for the Whites.

Indeed, he showed as much on the opening day with a goal and an assist in Leeds’ 2-2 draw against Cardiff City.

With Summerville back up to speed alongside Gnonto and Sinisterra, United have one of the strongest squads anywhere in the division.

In other Leeds United news, a striker could be on his way out of Elland Road.
