Leeds United in line for ‘significant’ windfall as Max Dean transfer update shared at MK Dons

Leeds United will land a “significant percentage” of any fee MK Dons get for Max Dean should the striker be sold, according to Joe Donnohue.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reporter shared the news on his personal X account [29 March] after Dean scored twice against Walsall.

Dean came through Leeds’ academy but departed for the Dons in January 2023 having not made a senior appearance for the Whites.

Donnohue said: “Two goals and two assists off the bench for ex-#LUFC youngster Max Dean this afternoon. Not bad for 25 minutes’ work.

“Told there was interest in him from abroad during January.

“If he were to move on from MK, Leeds have a significant percentage sell-on clause they’d cash in.”

Max Dean starring for MK Dons in League Two

Dean clearly made a wise decision in heading for MK Dons, where he was reunited with former Leeds Under-23s coach Mark Jackson.

The 20-year-old is playing regular football in the third tier and is clearly proving too good for that level with his displays this season.

Indeed, Dean now has 11 goals and three assists after his incredible performance in the 5-0 win over Walsall on Friday (29 March).

While Leeds were unable to keep hold of him, the club knew he had a big future ahead of him and were right to insert the sell-on clause.

Quite how much United will land remains to be seen, but MK Dons may well have a major challenge on their hands keeping hold of him.

And who knows? It may well be that Dean ends up back at Elland Road one day if he continues on his current trajectory.
