Leeds United transfer news: Mateo Joseph exit ‘on the cards’ for January

Leeds striker Mateo Joseph could leave the club in the January window in search of more regular first-team football, according to The Express.

Writing on their website (29 November), the news outlet report that the Whites could be ready to say goodbye to a host of fringe players in the upcoming transfer window.

And Joseph, who has starred for the reserves this season, could look for a temporary exit to either a Championship club or a team in League One.

“Spanish-born forward Joseph might be a regular for England U20s but he’s not troubling the Leeds United first team,” they wrote.

“With no senior appearances to his name as of yet this season, the 20-year-old has been plying his trade in the Yorkshire club’s youth ranks.

“But he will no doubt fancy his chances of making an impact elsewhere, so a January departure feels like it is on the cards, whether it is with another Championship club on in League One.”

Good

Joseph is one of the best young players at the club and we have seen that given chances, he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.

At 20-years-old he is in the stage of his career where playing regularly is absolutely vital, and not playing could really stagnate his development if it is prolonged for too long.

With Georginio Rutter, Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford all ahead of him in the pecking order the chances of getting a run of games at Elland Road are slim to none, and so a loan move could be his best option.

A Championship loan could be great to get him ready for the future at Leeds either stepping up or preparing for next season, and it could also help Leeds if he were to score goals against our rivals.

But a move to League One would likely make more sense on this occasion, and with Michael Skubala moving to Lincoln City earlier this season it could be the perfect destination. He’s called him “fantastic” before, so don’t be surprised if that pops up.

In other Leeds news, high-earning first-team star is “burning with desire” to leave club in January.
