Leeds United transfer news: Huge Sean Longstaff update emerges

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Sean Longstaff of Newcastle ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Whites are braced for a huge window after securing promotion to the Premier League as the Championship winners.

Leeds are said to have a £150million transfer kitty, as Daniel Farke looks to prepare his squad for the increasing competition in the top flight.

The West Yorkshire outfit have reportedly set their sights on strengthening in multiple positions, with a brand new spine on their agenda.

Leeds United have Longstaff answer ahead of summer

Longstaff is one player Leeds United could rope in to strengthen their midfield this summer.

The Peacocks have previously been linked with a move for the 27-year-old and continue to be credited with an interest in signing him.

Longstaff is attracting interest from the newly-promoted Premier League club, according to The i.

The newspaper reported via their website on Thursday (8 May) that the midfielder is seeking more playing time after being restricted to just 12 starts across all competitions this season.

Longstaff’s lack of involvement could suggest that Newcastle are open to selling him this summer, although they triggered a contract extension earlier this season.

This could signal good news for Leeds United as the Newcastle-born player could now be available for a sensible fee this window.

Longstaff could leave St. James’ Park this summer.

Longstaff to move to Elland Road

Midfield has been one of Leeds United’s biggest strengths this season, with Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev, Joe Rothwell and Ethan Ampadu all excelling.

However, Rothwell is due to return to Bournemouth when his loan deal expires, while Ampadu featured more as a centre-back towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Josuha Guilavogui’s short-term contract is also set to run out, meaning the Whites will be short of at least two players in midfield as things stand.

That is why a move for Longstaff makes sense for Leeds United.
