Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the future of Djed Spence after the Tottenham full-back had his Leeds United loan spell cut early.

The football transfer expert posted on his personal Twitter page on Sunday [7 January] that Spurs are planning to loan Spence out again.

Leeds this week surprisingly activated a break clause written into the player's loan deal when arriving at Elland Road in the summer.

Romano added that Spence is expected to depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium "in the next days".

Back to the Championship?

Spence did not feature all that much for Leeds in the first half of the campaign, mainly owing to injury lay-offs.

However, he has been used more regularly of late and was expected to play a prominent role in the second half of the campaign.

Daniel Farke clearly had other ideas, though, and Spence is now back at Tottenham… for the time being, at least.

Spence has not had the best time of things since joining Spurs in July 2022, and his career is now at a crossroads.

It way well be that a loan to another Championship side beckons as he attempts to get things back on track.

Whatever the reason for his departure - and plenty has been written in recent days - it is fair to say Leeds fans did not see the best of Spence.

The full-back certainly has something about him, and it may be that we see him light up the second tier with another club in the coming months.
