Leeds United transfer news: Fabrizio Romano says it will be ‘difficult’ for Whites to keep Summerville

Leeds United face a difficult task to retain the services of star winger Crysencio Summerville this summer, with Fabrizio Romano saying “it won’t be easy” to keep him at Elland Road.

Leeds’ promotion bid has been in no small part down to Summerville’s form this season, with the Championship’s Player of the Year notching 17 goals and eight assists with Daniel Farke’s side sat third in the table.

That form has drawn the eyes of several other clubs, and speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said that the club will have difficulty the £45 million-rated winger, regardless of if they’re promoted or not.

“It will be difficult for Leeds to keep hold of Summerville. I’m sure Leeds will try”, he said.

“Leeds will speak to the player and his representatives to find a way to keep the player. It won’t be easy, because many important clubs in England are keeping a close eye on his performances.”

“I think it will be difficult, but it’s still open, so let’s give Leeds their options to keep the boy at the club.”

Leeds keen to prevent Summerville transfer at all costs

It’s fairly rational to say that had Summerville joined Leeds United’s relegation exodus in the summer of 2023, the Whites would not be in the strong position they are going into the last three games of the Championship season.

While the job is far from done with Leeds hoping to break back into the automatic promotion places and avoid the dreaded play-offs in the process, they would be nowhere near the summit without Summerville’s 25 direct goal contributions this season.

Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison and Luis Sinisterra all opted out of dropping down to the Championship with Leeds, but Summerville has proven to be worth his weight in gold in their absence, hitting career-best form and strengthening his combinations with fellow starlets Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto.

Summerville and the rest of the squad may be just a few games away from making an immediate return to the Premier League, and if the 22-year-old Dutchman’s goals and assists continue to fly in at their current rate, Leeds could well be in a financial position to turn down almost any offer that comes their way.

In other Leeds United news, forward Georginio Rutter needs to boost his own goals tally sooner rather than later if the Whites are to seal promotion.
