Leeds United sanction loan exit for Darko Gyabi as North-West club emerges – Phil Hay

Leeds United are ready to let Darko Gyabi join Fleetwood Town on loan, according to Phil Hay.

The reliable journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Friday [1 September] that the defender could leave Leeds before the 11pm deadline.

Leeds signed Gyabi from Manchester City in July 2022 as part of a £5million deal that saw Kalvin Phillips head the opposite way for a far larger sum [Yorkshire Evening Post].

Hay posted: “Fleetwood Town on loan an option for Darko Gyabi ahead of the deadline. Leeds United ready to let him leave on a temporary basis.”

Faith

Gyabi has featured mainly in Leeds’ Premier League 2 side since arriving, with his two senior appearances this campaign totalling just 46 minutes on the field.

The 19-year-old played the first half of the EFL Cup win against Shrewsbury Town on 9 August and came on for the closing seconds of last weekend’s 4-3 Championship win at Ipswich Town.

That is not to say the England U20 international is not highly regarded at Elland Road.

Indeed, it was reported by Graham Smyth on Thursday [31 August] that Leeds had rejected a bid of up to £4m for Gyabi from Valenciennes.

Leeds United

Leeds instead want the youngster to gain experience at senior level before returning next summer and potentially challenging for a first-team spot.

Fleetwood are not exactly flying high at the moment, sitting as they are second-from-bottom in League One.

This may just be the ideal type of move that helps forge Gyabi’s career, though – one that could end with him reaching the very top.

In other Leeds United news, Hay has shared where he expects Crysencio Summerville to be playing his football once the deadline passes.
