Phil Hay tips Daniel Farke to instigate new Leeds United contract talks for Jamie Shackleton
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke could instigate talks over a new contract for Jamie Shackleton, according to Phil Hay.
The reliable journalist reported on The Athletic on Thursday [14 September] that Shackleton ignored talk of a possible exit in the summer and kept his head down in pre-season training to impress Farke.
Shackleton, who has spent 17 years on Leeds’ books, is due to be out of contract at Elland Road at the end of the campaign.

Hay said: “The club are yet to offer him an extension, although it is not unlikely that Farke will instigate talks about one.”
Regular football
Shackleton’s versatility is working in his favour, but Farke has plenty of competition for places now in midfield and at full-back.
The former England U20 international has started five matches in all competitions this season in five different positions [WhoScored].
That includes 90 minutes at left-back against Sheffield Wednesday last time out, but Sam Byram and Junior Firpo will soon be back available in that position.
With his 24th birthday on the horizon, Shackleton will be eager to continue playing regular football at this stage in his career.

That may currently be the case at Elland Road, although it could all change once Farke has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
Shackleton’s versatility is invaluable to Farke, however, and it is clear to see why the German would like him to stay on board beyond this season.
A decision on a new contract will no doubt become a lot clearer as the season goes on.
