Leeds United may face Crysencio Summerville battle in January as new ranking revealed

Leeds United may have seen some key players depart in the summer transfer window, but they recruited well and also managed to keep hold of some other big names.

A case in point is Crysencio Summerville, who was regularly linked with a move away from Elland Road in the summer but ultimately stayed put.

For now, at least, as clubs are no doubt keeping a close eye on the Dutchman’s development ahead of potentially making a fresh approach in the January window.

On the basis of the first eight Championship games of the campaign, of which Summerville has started half as he has dealt with some niggling injury issues, he has certainly done no harm to his reputation.

Indeed, as per The Second Tier on Twitter, WhoScored rank Summerville as the third-best winger in the Championship so far this season, narrowly behind Morgan Whittaker and Jack Clarke of Plymouth Argyle and Sunderland respectively.

Summerville is given a score of 7.54 out of 10 for his displays in the 2023-24 campaign, which has seen him contribute to a goal and an assist so far.

While those figures may not be all that eye-catching, he has been a menace for opposition sides in pretty much each game he has played this season.

Against Watford at the weekend, for example, he led the way for shots (five), shots on target (three) and crosses (eight) [WhoScored].

Another Leeds winger made the top seven of the list in Daniel James, incidentally, so Daniel Farke is clearly well stocked in the wide positions, even with Willy Gnonto out for the next month or so.

What it could mean, though, is Leeds have to fend off fresh competition for Summerville in particular in the coming months.

But as long as the Whites are still in the promotion picture come January, there is no reason they cannot keep the 21-year-old on their books for a while longer yet.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team player could call for crunch talks after becoming an afterthought at Elland Road.
