Leeds United player Brenden Aaronson is not likely to play for the club again, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Aaronson joined the Whites from Red Bull Salzburg for a reported £24.7million in May 2022 [Sky Sports].

However, the 23-year-old struggled to make much of an impact in his 36 Premier League appearances last season, 28 of those being starts.

And after a season on loan with Union Berlin, Jones does not see Aaronson running out for Leeds at Elland Road again.

"I don't really see much way back for Aaronson at Leeds," he told GiveMeSport [24 February].

"It is a different setup now, but he had a terrible year last term, and it still seems he just needs to find an environment that suits him.

"He's a good player, and I thought when Leeds signed him that he would do well. It didn't work out at all, especially towards the back end of last season."

Brendan Aaronson an expensive mistake for Leeds United

Aaronson did not justify his price tag last season and is supposedly unhappy in Berlin, which led to talk of a possible January recall.

However, Daniel Farke was against that idea and the attacking midfielder will instead see out the campaign in the Bundesliga.

Getting rid of Aaronson - albeit temporarily - as well as other deadwood has proved to be a masterstroke from Leeds.

The squad assembled this campaign is arguably even better than last season's - and infinitely more likeable.

Speaking earlier this week, Jesse Marsch namechecked Aaronson as someone who is difficult to manage.

No wonder Farke was not eager to bring him back into the squad in January, then, particularly when you consider the options already available to him.

Leeds cannot afford to offload Aaronson given he cost nearly £25m, but if they can recoup half of that in the summer, they will have to consider cutting their losses.
