Leeds United transfer news as Victor Orta could sign Che Adams in January
Leeds United may turn to Southampton striker Che Adams to solve their attacking deficiencies in January, with Victor Orta “tight” on money to spend, The Guardian reports.
The Whites have struggled for a consistent source of goals this season in Patrick Bamford’s absence, with Spanish forward Rodrigo holding the fort admirably with nine strikes already in the Premier League.
Adams has proven himself a vital cog in the works ever since his move to the south coast in 2019, and this season has proven no exception, featuring 15 times and netting four goals alongside one assist.
According to Guardian journalist Louise Taylor, Jesse Marsch’s side may attempt to lure the 26-year-old to Elland Road in the upcoming winter window, with the club unlikely to splash out on a marquee signing.
The report said: “Money is believed to be tight at Elland Road and, in any case, Victor Orta, the director of football, never seems keen on trading in January.
“With Patrick Bamford struggling to return to optimal fitness another central striker would also be useful. Southampton’s Scotland forward Che Adams ranks among the potential options.”
Although Adams may not fill Leeds fans with a bundle of excitement – these are the sorts of players who can win football matches with crucial goals.
A proven clinical goal scorer, Adams may well be a shrewd acquisition if the club could lure him from the Saints for a modest fee. With Bamford no longer a reliable source of goals and few other alternatives available to Marsch, he needs to get some bodies through the door in January, and fast.
After failing to pick up a left-back and a centre-forward in the summer, the pressure is certainly on Orta to deliver the goods in the next month, as Leeds continue to slip far too close to the relegation zone for comfort.
The transfer will likely hinge on the player’s relationship with new Southampton manager Nathan Jones, but if he is allowed to leave the Saints permanently, Leeds should look to pounce.
