Leeds United transfer news as Rodrigo touches down in Qatar after release clause
Leeds United star Rodrigo has touched down in Qatar ahead of formally completing a move to Al Rayyan, according to information from Phil Hay via The Athletic.
It was shared that Rodrigo has arrived in Qatar and is set to undergo a medical ahead of the move after his release clause was activated by the club, as he becomes the fifth player to leave Leeds United this summer.
The Leeds forward had 12 months left on his contract, but it was his release clause, believed to be set at around £3million which became active as the club were relegated from the Premier League, that sees him set to leave the club this summer.
Rodrigo arrived as Leeds’ record signing when the club bought him for £27million in 2020. The Spaniard went on to make 97 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals and five assists, with 15 of those goals coming last season as he ended the campaign as Leeds’ top scorer.
Rodrigo was a good servant to Leeds
Among plenty of poor business during Leeds United’s most recent spell in the Premier League, Rodrigo was a stand-out player and can be considered a success for his time at the club.
He was Leeds’ top scorer last season, scoring 15 goals and providing two assists in 35 appearances, and was often the man they would turn to to help them in difficult games.

It must be said that for £27million you may expect the type of output he provided, and perhaps even more, but his arrival from Valencia seemed to be a realisation from Leeds that they could strengthen the squad with quality players to perform in the Premier League when he arrived following their promotion in 2020.
Leaving to join Al Rayaan for £3million will be a harsh feeling for Leeds fans and for the club with the heavy loss they’ve experienced both on the squad and financially, although it was to be expected following their relegation from the Premier League that stars would be leaving for cut-prices.
In other Leeds United news, it has been reported that one Leeds star may not fancy a move to a Premier League side.
