Leeds United transfer news as Robin Koch update emerges

Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche has claimed his club is confident of securing a permanent deal for Leeds United defender Robin Koch.

Koch has spent the opening stages of the season on loan at the Bundesliga club and has even captained the side, with his Elland Road contract up at the end of the campaign.

The sporting director was full of praise for Koch after his strong start to the season, claiming his experience and talent provides the team with more stability, and suggesting it was the right move for all parties.

Speaking to German outlet Sport1 on 1 November, Krosche was asked about Koch’s long-term future at the club, when he revealed: “We are confident about that. I think the transfer was the right step for both sides.

“We were able to convince Robin of our club so much that he chose us. With his experience, he gives us the stability we need. Robin’s experience helps Tuta and Willian [Pacho].

“I am confident that we will have a lot of fun with Robin for many years to come.”

The move feels inevitable

Due to Koch’s Leeds contract being due to expire at the end of the current season, it has been almost inevitable that he would secure a permanent move away from Elland Road if that possibility arose as a result of his displays.

When Leeds decided to allow Koch to leave on loan in the summer, they were well aware that his contract with the Whites would be expiring and therefore will have been prepared for his eventual departure as the odds of him signing a new deal always looked slim.

The quick and impressive start he has made in the Bundesliga has led to these talks beginning even earlier into his time than many would have expected, but with negotiations set to take place in January, Leeds will be powerless to influence this deal.

The Yorkshire club will therefore be prepared for a future without Koch. Whether that means assessing long-term options in the transfer market or an improved level of game time for the likes of Charlie Cresswell remains to be seen.
