Leeds United transfer news as Max Wober leaves Elland Road teammates hurt
Max Wober has left his Leeds United teammates hurt after his transfer U-turn is set to see him join Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, according to Leeds Live.
The 25-year-old defender had seemingly decided to stay at Elland Road and fight for the Whites to return to the Premier League but quickly changed his decision when the German side showed an interest in signing him.
Wober only joined Leeds in January, signing from RB Salzburg before making 16 appearances in the second half of the campaign as the Whites were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Writing about the Austrian’s decision, Beren Cross discussed the frustration around Elland Road, saying: “Max Wober’s exit will make it 12 departures. Ironically, Wober’s is the only farewell which will sting. Rodrigo would have been a welcome component next term, but it was always a stretch to expect a player of his calibre to remain in England’s second tier.
“Wober was arguably the only one of the departures you could have seen doing a worthwhile job in the Championship. After committing to sticking around, his U-turn at the first sign of Borussia Monchengladbach interest hurt team-mates and colleagues.”
Best away from the group
While the mass exodus at Elland Road is rightfully causing some concern amongst the fanbase at Leeds, there is a school of thinking that if Wober has caused such hurt amongst the team, the Whites might be better rid of his services.
As mentioned in Cross’ article, there was an expectation that some of the biggest names would depart Yorkshire this summer, as is the case whenever a team is relegated. But those were players who never appeared committed to the cause.

Wober has done exactly the opposite, presenting the image of a player banding together with his side to return to the Premier League, before jumping ship at the earliest possible point.
For Daniel Farke to create success at Elland Road this season, he needs a team that are together and united, and it no longer seems like Wober fits the criteria, so Leeds may well be better off without him.
However, his departure does refocus the need for defenders to be signed this summer, with the backline looking lighter by the day. Ethan Ampadu can play there and is a step in the right direction, but more work needs to be done in this window.
