Leeds United transfer news as Liam Cooper and Blackburn Rovers ‘deadlocked’ in contract talks
Blackburn Rovers are still “deadlocked” in contract talks with Liam Cooper following the end of his deal with Leeds United, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
The outlet reported on its website on Friday (19 July) that despite initial optimism the deal would be completed quickly, the two parties are yet to reach an agreement to bring the Scottish international to Ewood Park.
Other teams still hold an interest in signing the centre-back this summer and extending his stay at Elland Road remains an option despite Cooper’s desire to play regular first-team football this season.
Blackburn have offered the 32-year-old an initial one-year deal, with an additional year automatically triggered if he makes a certain number of appearances.
However, the exact figures are yet to be agreed.
Will Leeds United re-sign Liam Cooper amid Blackburn Rovers transfer speculation?
The majority of Leeds United supporters have come to accept that Cooper’s time at Elland Road is nearing its end, but it doesn’t seem as though his future is that clearcut judging by the latest developments.
Blackburn’s proposal may provide the Scotsman with an opportunity to play week in and week out, but it will also see him take a substantial pay cut and any future injuries could impact his ability to earn a new contract.
Under Daniel Farke he is much less likely to play anything more than a supporting role, but he will be paid better whilst also having the opportunity to help Leeds return to the Premier League once again.

It doesn’t remain clear which offer the 32-year-old will take up in the coming weeks. The Whites will be hoping he makes a decision sooner rather than later as where Cooper ends up could impact the remainder of their transfer business.
If he signs on and offers another defensive option, a new centre-back is unlikely to be a priority. But should he follow Charlie Cresswell out of the exit door, Farke may feel he needs further reinforcements.
