Leeds United transfer news as late Liam Cooper exit now on cards at Elland Road

Blackburn Rovers have made a “Surprise” approach for Leeds United defender Liam Cooper in the January transfer window after missing out on Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist shared via his Patreon on 30 January that, after Phillips chose a loan move to Cardiff over Blackburn, Cooper has emerged as an option for the Championship strugglers.

It is said that Cooper could be available on loan if Leeds are able to sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes on 1 February, in a hectic end to the month at Elland Road.

Another legend out the door

If Cooper were to depart Elland Road this month, Leeds fans would have seen two club legends leave within a matter of weeks, with Luke Ayling also having left on loan to join Middlesbrough, and his contract set to run out at the end of the season.

Cooper is in the same position, wanted on loan with his deal set to expire, so an eventual permanent move could be on the cards if no new contract is tabled before he could leave to join Blackburn for the rest of the season.

It is stated that this can only happen if Leeds are able to sign another defender in January, with Everton’s Ben Godfrey the main name on their list of targets, so it looks set to be a busy end to the month at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has spoken at length about the captain’s influence in the dressing room, but he said similar about Ayling before he was allowed to move, and with no contract discussions underway, it seems likely that Cooper could follow as the next to leave the club.
