Leeds United transfer news as Joe Rodon to sign on loan this week at Elland Road
Leeds United are set to complete the loan signing of Tottenham defender Joe Rodon this week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer expert reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (8 August) that the Whites were closing in on the Welsh international’s signature as they aim to strengthen their backline.
Leeds captain Liam Cooper is set for an extended spell on the sidelines having picked up a foot injury in Daniel Farke’s side’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City on Sunday (6 August) and a move for Rodon was likely accelerated because of that.
Confirming reports of Leeds’ interest in the former Rennes loanee, Romano tweeted: “Joe Rodon, on the verge of joining Leeds on loan deal from Tottenham as called by Mike McGrath.
“Deal could be completed this week.”
Rodon spent last season on loan with Rennes in Ligue 1 and has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur since moving to North London back in 2020 from Swansea City, so a move to the Championship would make sense for all parties.
Could be clever
Although Rodon’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been far from memorable, only making 24 appearances for Spurs in the three years he has been with the club, he represents a smart addition for the Farke this summer, whether Cooper is fit or not.
The 25-year-old is a proven international defender, already winning 36 caps for Wales and was hugely impressive when he was last in the Championship with the Swans making 21 appearances at 22 years old and earning a Premier League move.

One worry is the Welshman’s injury record, he hasn’t been particularly fit consistently throughout his career and as Farke aims to navigate the next eight weeks without his captain, he’ll need all hands on deck to help in Cooper’s absence and can’t afford his replacement to miss out with injury also.
But if Rodon can keep himself fit and healthy, a move to the Championship would be excellent for all parties as he appears to be a fringe player at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, he may be able to breathe new life into his career and help Leeds’ in their push to return to the Premier League.
