Leeds United transfer news as James McAtee contract update drops, interest expressed

Leeds United are one of several Premier League sides who have expressed interest in signing Manchester City loanee James McAtee, according to the Daily Mail.

McAtee, nicknamed ‘the Salford Silva’ for his likeness in style to former Spanish midfielder David, has been an instrumental cog in Sheffield United’s promotion campaign this term.

The report shared that the Premier League champions have begun fresh talks over a new contract for the 20-year-old following his successful loan spell with the Blades.

However, Leeds have let Manchester City know they are keen on signing the England Under-21 international if he should become available.

“Brighton, Burnley, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Wolves and Leeds United have all expressed an interest in the England U21 international should he become available,” the Daily Mail wrote.

“Primarily though, McAtee wants to stake a claim for a first team place at Manchester City and has been encouraged by Pep Guardiola’s praise for his performances this season.”

Great option

Any player who earns glowing reviews from Pep Guardiola and is likened to Silva must possess quite some talent.

This season has been a coming-of-age year for the £25million rated midfielder, and he is now surely ready for the step up to Premier League football.

Paul Heckingbottom has sung McAtee’s praises all season long after a string of brilliant performances in the middle of the park and McAtee looks like he is now physically ready for the demands of top-flight football.

Several successful players over the years have spent time in the Championship at the beginning of their careers, with the likes of Jack Grealish, Mason Mount and Dele Alli just a few who benefitted from such exposure.

Although McAtee looks ready to fight for his first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium, Leeds should be on red-hot alert in case talks die down.

The need for a midfielder to partner Tyler Adams has been evident for Leeds United this season, and if they remain in the Premier League, he looks like a great option to explore.

In other Leeds United news, one source has shared what Big Sam has done at the club, which is something that has been seen for a while.
