Leeds United transfer news as increased weekend bid made for Alexander Nubel
Leeds United target and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel looks likely to join Stuttgart this summer, despite a £8.6m-plus bid from the English club, after a deal was agreed on Sunday 23 July, according to Kicker.
The German news outlet shared via its website on 24 July that Leeds had offered a “double-digit million” deal to Bayern Munich with bonuses on top, who would have preferred that deal, but Nubel made clear his desire not to play in the English second division, and now looks set to move on loan to Stuttgart.
Leeds’ bid over the weekend was in expectation that the deal with the German outfit would fall through after the direction changed, but it was revived over talks on Sunday 23 July, with a medical pending and contracts set to be signed.

A disappointing outcome
It has become clear that Leeds United had made Nubel their main target to replace Illan Meslier this summer, with the large bid a sign of how highly the club value their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper, with the saga ending in disappointing fashion.
The club are also targeting a move for Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow, but face competition from Premier League Bournemouth, and could be set to miss out on both of their main goalkeeper targets.
The news that Bayern Munich would have preferred to entertain Leeds’ offer will leave an even more bitter taste in the mouths of the Yorkshire side, as ultimately it was the player’s decision not to join Leeds due to their position in the second division.

The club will be hoping to start getting further incoming deals over the line after the early part of the transfer window has been dominated by exiting players, other than the signing of Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.
In other Leeds United news, the club are set for further exits in what is becoming a ‘really busy’ transfer window.
