Leeds United transfer news as Elia Caprile windfall will help new deal

Leeds United are set to benefit from a £3million transfer windfall, with the money set to be invested into the pursuit of a new goalkeeper this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper has shared via their website that the £3million the club are set to receive as a result of a 50% sell-on clause in Elia Caprile’s contract as he moves to Napoli, will aid with their own chase for a new goalkeeper in the coming days.

The money received as a result of this clause will double Leeds’ earnings this summer after Rodrigo left the club for the same fee. Leeds have been targeting goalkeepers as Illan Meslier is expected to be one of many departures from Elland Road since their relegation.

Leeds’ goalkeeper search continues

The club have been linked to several goalkeepers this summer, including Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow, Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nubel, and Norwich City’s Angus Gunn. Any additional transfer funds will be welcome as Leeds look to start spending properly.

It was reported in the Yorkshire Evening Post on 24 July that the club are hopeful of bringing in a new shot-stopper in the coming days, although the player in question is yet to be named, leading to plenty of speculation.

Leeds’ transfer profit this summer has been minimal despite the number of stars that have made their way out of Elland Road in the transfer exodus since their relegation, as a number of key players left the club on loan deals due to contract clauses.

As a result, only the deal for Rodrigo has brought in any tangible money for Leeds so far this summer, so a £3million windfall thanks to a contract clause entered just a season ago will be a welcome bonus for the Yorkshire side.
