Leeds United will be "going back in" with another bid for FC Koln midfielder Dejan Ljubicic before the end of the transfer window, according to Graeme Bailey.

The journalist spoke to LeedsUnited News on 1 August, and said that the Whites are still very keen on bringing Austria international Ljubicic to Elland Road this summer.

Daniel Farke's side have already seen one £3.4million bid for Ljubicic knocked back by Koln [Nancy Froston, 25 July], and are reportedly preparing another offer to force the recently relegated Bundesliga side's hand.

Bailey said of the Whites' interest in Ljubicic: “They really like this boy from Cologne.

"Yes, they are going back in for him.”

Leeds United must turn up the heat in Dejan Ljubicic transfer battle

Spending north of £3.4m and potentially as high as £5m on a midfielder whose side have just been demoted to Germany's second tier may not, on the surface, look like the wisest of moves.

But with the Whites looking set to receive a final fee north of £30m – starting at at least £25m [West Ham Football, 31 July] – from Crysencio Summerville's move to West Ham, the time is now to act and go all guns blazing on the transfer front.

Crysencio Summerville's move to West Ham could give Leeds United £25million to spend on new players

While Farke – like his promotion-winning predecessor Marcelo Bielsa – seemed to favour a small squad last season, he must act on his interest in Ljubicic using the funds that will soon be headed to LS11.

A replacement – or two given his output last season – for Summerville must be paramount, but adding other players in the areas he feels need strengthening, such as midfield, could be just as important.

While the exits of Glen Kamara and Summerville will leave gaps to fill, neither being late in the transfer window does give the Whites time to act, and not be held to ransom over Ljubicic by Koln as the days tick by.
