Leeds United transfer news as Cody Drameh update emerges at Elland Road

Leeds United are trying their hardest to keep Cody Drameh at the club this summer amid strong transfer interest from Luton Town, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Drameh, 21, was sent out on loan to Kenilworth Road in the January transfer window and has been a shining light in their quest for Championship promotion this campaign.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday evening (17 May), Guardian journalist and transfer insider Romano shared an update on the young defender’s future at Elland Road, with a host of teams from different leagues interested in his services.

Leeds United

“Cody Drameh, into the play off final — Leeds trying hardest to keep him while Luton want to do everything to sign the right-back hoping to play Premier League football,” he wrote.

“Championship, Premier League and European clubs all monitoring the situation closely.

“No decision has been taken.”

Up in the air

Many Leeds United fans would have already feared that Drameh was out of the doors, but it seems like the club are reluctant to let him go without a fight.

The 21-year-old has been one of the brightest young stars the club has possessed in years, and considering the failures of both Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen this season, it is hard to see anything but first-team football awaiting if he remains at Elland Road.

There are so many factors that will come under consideration before making a move, however.

Firstly whether Leeds United maintain their Premier League status, second, who the manager of the club will be next season – with Sam Allardyce currently only contracted until the end of the season – and thirdly, whether Luton Town manage to seal promotion to the Premier League in the next week.

There are so many factors that will need to be sorted out before a concrete decision is reached, but right now, fans will breathe a sigh of relief that Leeds are trying all they can to keep hold of the highly-rated defender.
