Leeds United transfer news as Ben Johnson ready to snub West Ham United

Leeds United may have been handed a boost in the race to sign Ben Johnson as he looks set to snub West Ham United’s latest contract offer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Whites have been linked to signing the versatile defender as his contract at the London Stadium runs out in the summer transfer window.

Writing for the Mirror (12 May, page 49), Darren Witcoop has suggested that despite receiving a new contract offer, Johnson is set to reject it.

Leeds are one club he is considering, although Wolves, Rangers and other Championship clubs are also showing an interest.

Should Leeds United sign Ben Johnson?

It hasn’t come as a surprise that the Englishman wants a move away from West Ham given his lack of game time in his time there.

He has started just four games this season and has gone on to make 10 further substitute appearances, featuring in just 538 minutes [FotMob].

Johnson has the ability to play across the back line and has also operated in the midfield as a sub when called upon.

Due to a lack of first-team minutes, it is hard to know how good the 24-year-old would be if he was to sign for Leeds.

With the lottery of the playoffs ahead of Daniel Farke’s side there is no clarity on whether it’ll be Premier League or Championship next season.

It must be said that on a free transfer, he would represent a great piece of business in either division.

With Premier League and Scottish Premiership interest, it may be difficult to convince Johnson to make the move to Elland Road.
