Leeds United tracking Calvin Ramsay, battling Liverpool for signing - Phil Hay
Leeds United are one of the clubs tracking Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay for a transfer this summer, according to Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Ramsay has been linked with a move to several Premier League clubs after impressing for the Scottish side as a full-back, and is now touted as one of the best British prospects around.
With Leeds set to continue to target young players with potential this summer, Hay says the Whites are interested in the 18-year-old defender but will have to compete with Liverpool for his signature.
Hay says that the club are set to have more clear lines between the youth squad and first-team next season and if Ramsay were to arrive he would be part of the first-team.
It’s believed he would push for a spot in the starting line-up at right-back, with Luke Ayling entering his 30’s and having just one year remaining on his contract.
Leeds’ position in the transfer market is clear and they know it. They must identify young talent early, bring them in as a bit of a gamble and then eventually either sell them on for a big profit or establish themselves at Elland Road.
Ramsay, despite his age, has got plenty of experience having made 31 appearances so far this season in both the Scottish Premiership and the Europa Conference League.
He would provide solid competition for Ayling, who has been a great servant and been one of the stand-out performers in what has been a tough season so far.
It will be hard to win the battle for his signature, especially with giants like Liverpool involved, but Elland Road certainly have a good record for bringing in young players and helping them blossom.
Regular football should be at the top of his priority list and Leeds can offer that, but there is clearly a plan in place for the summer and that’s good news to fans.
