Leeds United told to sign Glen Kamara to calm discontent amid Rangers transfer speculation

Ross McCormack has urged Leeds United to sign wantaway Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara as he will have a “steadying influence” at Elland Road.

The former Whites and Rangers forward claimed in the Daily Mail (16 August) that Kamara is more than capable at a Championship level and could become a mentor for young Leeds stars like Archie Gray.

Speculation regarding Kamara’s Ibrox future has led many to believe he will not be at the club before the window shuts, with the Gers reportedly (16 August) willing to let the Finnish international go for as little as £5million, according to Football Scotland.

McCormack said: “Every single game Glen plays he’s at least a 7.5 out of 10, he doesn’t give the ball away and he’d give them great stability.

“Leeds have a great young talent in Archie Gray and he’d benefit from having someone like Glen alongside him. Glen has played nearly every game for Finland since the last European Championships, he’s got over 50 caps and played regularly for Rangers in Europe, what he can pass on to young players like Gray is invaluable. He’s more than good enough for the level.

“I feel sorry for Farke as he has inherited the situation. That’s where someone like Glen would be a great addition for him. He’d have a steadying influence, a good pro that could lead by example and help keep everyone together.”

Low cost, high reward?

Kamara is certainly an experienced professional and has the attributes to perform well in the Championship under Daniel Farke.

The 27-year-old has been frozen out by Rangers boss Michael Beale, with the Daily Record reporting (30 July) that Kamara was training alone ahead of an expected departure.

While Kamara could be good enough for some Premier League sides, the stature and potential trajectory of Leeds could make an Elland Road move appealing for the former Dundee man.

Farke’s side has had trouble scoring and defending so far this season, and Kamara could help take the pressure off both of these issues. While not a prolific scorer by any means, he has been known to score important goals including against RB Leipzig in the Europa League semi-final second leg in Rangers’ 2021/22 run to the final.

Kamara is adept at keeping the ball in the midfield and progressing play, while his strength and tackling ability make him a solid option in front of the defence.

If they can get Kamara for £5million or less, he could be a shrewd signing that brings a fresh level of leadership to a youthful Leeds United team.

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League side has submitted a fresh £25million offer for an Elland Road forward.
